Spring in South Texas
Last spring I helped out in a birding festival and the organizer asked me to be a part of trying to set up photography sessions for there next event in 2025. I think that I did learn is that birding and photographer on the same trip do not mix. Birder want to see the bird and move on to the next awaiting species for there life list. On the other hand photographer want to say put in the blinds and get some close up of some of the most outstanding species have I encountered, the location was in south Texas near Brownville, were we saw Chachalaca, Road runners Gila woodpeckers , Bullock Orioles, Summer tanagers, Tropical Kingbirds and that just naming a few. I have some pictures, I was disappointed in the fact that there is a heavy Marine layer that does not burn off until noon and also in some of the Ranch location we had to shoot through the window which was not ideal for photography. But when all was done, I went through what would need to change for paying customer. 1 Check birder and photographer separate,2. We need blind areas, being out in the open does not allow the birds to be in there nature state and 3 if we can not get out don’t tease the photographers, for birder that’s fine but not for people trying to get a nice shoot of a Zone tailed hawk through a side van window. There were other finding but that’s just a few, I don’t want to bore you with the others, enclosed are a few 20 that I took, its should be a great 2025 events with the lessoned learned implemented. We if youre interested in this type of event please let us know, until next
